I had a first meeting with the Engineering HR Manager to talk about the position and salary expectations. I was then asked to answer a super interesting questionnaire to evaluate my skills. It was not your typical technical assessment: the questions were turned in a way to test your way of approaching tasks or problems. I had a lot of fun with it. After that, I had a technical interview, but it was more of a laid back technical discussion about how I would solve this or that. Finally, I a call with the CTO. It was really short, he asked me a few technical questions. He then decided to hire me on the spot. To be completely honest in this review, there had been a mix up in my salary expectations, and I was offered less than I had anticipated. But I am so happy I did because Chess.com is an amazing company to work for, the people, the workflow, the product! It was by far the nicest interview process I've had, they didn't make me feel like I was the 100th person they've interviewed and that they just wanted to get it over with (which I've had in many other interviews). They were also very responsive and kept me up to date with where I was in the process.
