I applied online. I interviewed at Chipotle (Oceanside, CA)
Interview
I applied online and got a call a few days later. The manager met me at a table in the restaurant and asked me to tell him a little bit about myself for introduction. We were sitting and talking about why I wanted to work there and all the basic interview questions for about 35 or 45 minutes. When finished, he told me he would give me a call with his decision.
I received an email to come in for an interview about a week after I applied online. The time was for 10am, an hour before they opened. The interview process was quick and simple; I sat down with the apprentice (step below general manager) who told me a lot about the company, then the kitchen manager, who asked my availability, experience, etc, then I went to answer questions with the rest of the employees that were working at that time. Make sure you research the Food with Integrity, and know about all the company's high standards, in and out of the restaurant. They don't like to hear "you have good food" when asked what you know about Chipotle!
I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Chipotle (Las Vegas, NV) in Jan 2015
Interview
They piled a group of us together and began interviewing each of us one-by-one. They seemed intent on discounting as many interviewees as possible, yet I don't think it was the on the basis of any skills or traits relevant to Chipotle's requirements or culture. Within about 15 minutes, about half of us were "eliminated," if you will. From this impression, it seemed like they were looking for who they'd want to be Facebook friends with as opposed to who would be a team member that performs well and aligns with the company culture.
After the interviews, they were bent on dodging every single one of our job status inquiries. Whenever I called in, they actually lied to me ("the job server is down," "our e-mails aren't working right now," "we're having some technical issues," etc.) instead of just telling me they were still considering applicants. My application on their job server still displays "in progress" and I have yet to receive a rejection letter/e-mail, but I am assuming that they didn't think it was worth their time to send rejection letters. At this point, it was clear that they reduced applicants to numbers, which would be fine if that type of behavior didn't conflict with Chipotle's alleged values. Ultimately, Chipotle's image is just that, an image.
