I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Chipotle (Burbank, CA) in Jul 2012
Interview
I applied online and received a phone call within a couple weeks. I was told it would be a group interview. I showed up and there was only one other person there. A guy. We were interviewed out on the patio and the interview turned out to be the most draining one I've ever had. It was over 50 minutes, can you believe it? I myself couldn't believe it considering we were only being interviewed for a cashier's position. The girl interviewing us was nice, I'll give her that, but I couldn't help but marvel on how formal this interview was for such a small position. She also made us take a personality test, too. Some of the questions that were asked I couldn't help but find ludicrous, and no doubt I flubbed some of my answers. The other interviewee no doubt was outshining me. I imagine he got the job.

Interview
Applied online, got an email a few days later for an interview. Went to the interview and there were 6 of us. Interviewed by one of the managers. The GM came in halfway through it and just talked and talked and talked about how hard the work was and good she was at doing it. The first half of the interview was good, until she came and made it all about her. Wasn't selected for employment. I didn't get discouraged and applied to almost every chipotle location in a 30 mi radius from me. I knew by that time I really wanted to work at a Chipotle.
Had another interview the following week at a different location. Manager was late. There were 3 of us. One guy was texting on his phone the whole time we were waiting and even during the interview, and another showed up late too (about 5 mins after the manager did.) It was a 1:1 interview and thought it went well. Never got a call back. Maybe the texting guy got it. Or the one that was late?
About a week later I got an email for an interview at a third location. Showed up and it was a group interview. There were about 15 of us. Two managers interviewed us. Very cool. Very nice managers. Genuinely seemed interested in all of us. The interview went well and I sent a follow up "thank you" email the next day. Got called a few hours later for a 2nd interview with the GM, which I have today. Hoping I get hired, so excited! This third location has an overall more positive environment than the other 2 I interviewed at.
Advice: Just keep at it. Be persistent. I hope this helps give you an idea of what could happen. I remember with my first interview I was frantically looking all over for tips on how to ace these interviews.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Basic questions. They asked us to talk about ourselves and a goal we had. What we know about Chipotle. The hardest part I guess was trying to stand out to the managers in front of 15 people who I can only describe were like a pack of wolves fighting over dinner. Getting past the first interview is the toughest part.
