I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DHL Supply Chain (Allentown, PA) in Sep 2013
Interview
I was contacted by Exel. HR had found my resume online. From the start, the HR rep was hands down the best representative I have ever dealt with. I actually responded on her behalf to the General Manager to please recognize her. I was brought in for an interview with a senior Ops Manager. Prior to meeting, I sat with the general HR manager and discussed my resume. He was very easy going and made me comfortable and let me showcase my skills with no distractions. After our meeting, I went in with the senior Ops Mgr. He asked me to explain my resume from the bottom up. Immediately after he asked me some basic STAR questions. Nothing uncomfortable. Very relaxed. Actually, the questions were leading me into discussing the skills they were looking for. Interview was about an hour. I waited about a day to see a reply from my interview follow up email. I was asked to interview with the General Mgr. About a week later I interviewed with him. Again, it was very informal and comfortable. Again, he listened to my sales pitch and followed up by asking me some general leadership situational style questions. About another hour long. I must say that everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Again, I followed up with emails to the managers and waited. About a week passed and I followed up again to be told that they would be making a decision by the end of the week. The end of the week passed with no offer. I checked the company Website and noticed the job posting was removed. I figured I was passed up. Two days later, an offer arrived. The offer is written and mailed so there is really no negotiation to be had unless you formally counter the offer. In conclusion, great process overall and I really liked the company and interactions I had. Cant wait to start.
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at DHL Supply Chain (Liverpool, Inglaterra) in Nov 2023
Interview
Overall I found interacting with the DHL team to be a frustrating experience. It seems that recruitment is handled at the site level so it’s almost impossible to get hold of anyone if you have follow-up questions or require clarification. During my recruitment process, Team members were on holiday so I would be left hanging for 7 days at a time, on multiple occasions, between replies. Functioning recruitment systems would require active cases to be handed over between recruiters to ensure stuff like this does not happen however despite DHL’s scale, I believe their system to be quite archaic.
When I was offered the role, I was contacted saying “congrats” and that they would be in touch the following Monday to discuss the offer. However, a full 2 weeks passed by before I got a call inviting me to tour the site. I needed to bring up that nothing had been discussed with me regarding the job, the hours or the offer. This was luckily rectified the morning of the site tour, however, when I arrived, the job and hours discussed with me over the boardroom table were not the job I interviewed for nor was it made clear to me over the phone by the recruiter.
The interview process itself started with a phone call where I was asked to give a quick synopsis of my experience in my previous role which led to me being invited to a Group Interview day. This consisted of 2 group exercises, a Competency-based interview with 2 managers from DHL and then a Presentation on how you would tackle KPI’s within a Team.
