Thorough and technical. started with an intro of technical understanding then to review code. Then to write efficient code all in Python. Finally an informal talk but still problem solving related questions.
Some normal questions, a lot of idle chatting, and I was asked to pitch 15 different ideas for the department (in a preliminary interview!), all of which the interviewer seemed to like. Except then she never responded to my thank you email.

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at HarperCollins (New York, NY) in Jul 2018
Interview
There was as brief phone call at which no questions were asked, followed by an in person interview with the hiring manager, which was followed directly by three more interviews with the current person in the position and the two supervisors. All of them were more structured as open conversations than questions and answers, and everyone except the hiring manager (who was quite rude) was very friendly.
