Interview
I interviewed with a recruiter, the hiring manager, and a panel of the position's peers. The interviews with the recruiter and hiring manager seemed to go well; however, the hiring manager was mostly stoic during our conversation. Unfortunately, the same was true for the panel participants. The questions along the way weren't difficult, but the lack of any kind of feedback, or simple acknowledgment to demonstrate engagement, during the interviews made the process challenging. The panelists were basically robots, as they had clearly prepared a list of questions and determined the order in advance. I appreciate the organization (other interviewers could learn from that!), but they didn't engage with me or react at all during the panel interview. I felt like I was talking to a wall in an empty room. The recruiter and hiring manager at least kept me informed of my status along the way. Finally, the position was advertised as remote and no location restrictions were noted. The hiring manager clarified during our conversation that they preferred someone who lives within a commutable distance and could be onsite when necessary. I wish that had been stated in the job description; it would have saved all of us a lot of time.
