Don't have high expectations. The job posting is fake. I was interviewing for a software enginer role. Did well but they filled the position with an internal candidate. This job was never open for us, it was to give an intern a promotion. They had to post online for HR/legal reasons to show they tried to hire an external candidate. I spent several hours preparing for the interviews & taking the interview in total. Good job on wasting our time.
I applied online. I interviewed at Niantic (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
It was good; the first interview was a screening where they asked a lot of background questions and outlined the job details. It was relatively easy to answer.Niantic is a Hybrid-First work environment: this means that employees are expected to be in-office 2 days a week
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Do you have any urgent timelines, offers, or deadlines we should be aware of?
Would you need relocation support from Niantic? Where would you plan/prefer to be based from?
Niantic is a Hybrid-First work environment: this means that employees are expected to be in-office 2 days a week. Except for a few critical projects/teams that have determined a need to be in-office 3 days a week. Company Anchor days are Wednesday, and your second day will be dependent on the org/team you are a part of. Employees are free to work from home the remainder of the week!
Are you eligible to work in the United States? Do you need Visa or Immigration support to accept an offer from Niantic? And if you're currently on a visa, please let us know which, and the expiration date.
Please confirm the base salary range on the Job Description is in line with your expectations. I'll have more information for you regarding the total compensation package as we move along in the process, however, just so you're aware:
Niantic offers competitive compensation, and offer packages include: (Base Salary + Annual Bonus + RSU/Shares on a 4-year vesting schedule, along with other perks/benefits).
First round is typically a technical discussion going over some basic concepts such as coding fundamentals and computer graphics. It is a mix between motivations for applying and technical aptitude.
I applied through other source. I interviewed at Niantic (Tóquio) in May 2025
Interview
There was first a small introductory interview where they explained the rest of the interview process followed by 2 technical skill tests. The people were very kind helpful and answered all the questions I had.
