I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Optum in Jun 2022
Interview
I "interviewed" with Optum twice - once in 2019 and again this year. The experience was grossly underwhelming on both occasions.
In 2019, in the second interview round, I ended up in an unsavory discussion with an inexplicably sullen senior member of the tech team, which ended with him literally handing me his laptop and me showing him the Spring framework documentation to prove that he was incorrect. He mumbled something about his cred and his OSS contributions, but the idea of ending up in this person's team wasn't exactly filling me with excitement. I made an excuse with the recruiter and left right after this round.
This year's experience was arguably worse. An interview (as a Teams meeting) was set up. The recruiter called me 3 hours prior to double check. Unfortunately, no one from Optum joined the interview. After 30 annoying minutes, I called the recruiter but the call was never picked.
Their unprofessional conduct in two different interviews does not inspire confidence. I cannot imagine things being much better if one were to join.
