After I submitted my application form, which btw was very comprehensive with many questions requiring a detailed answer, I've received a mock email to which I was to respond as if I was dealing with a customer. This was pretty easy.
A week later I've received an invitation link to schedule my phone interview, or life story interview. The nearest date was 4 weeks away, so I went ahead and scheduled one.
On the day of the interview I dialed in as per the instructions and was left waiting 20 minutes for the other party to log in to the call, when I finally received an email from the interviewer telling me the interview was cancelled and no instructions on how to schedule a new one, or a reply to my email requesting one. This I found very unprofessional. Eventually , I've emailed the person in Canada who originaly sent me the invitation link and he was very nice and helped me reschedule.
The interview itself was interesting in the sense that there were no typical questions, but the interviewer forgot that the person interviewed is also evaluating whether they want to work for the company. The interviewer came across very uninterested, bored even and I don't think he was even listening to anything I had to say as he just kept saying 'mhm' in 3 second intervals regardless of what I was saying. This was very discouraging for me, as I felt as if I was talking to myself, I've even paused few times wondering if he was listening. I don't think I've ever experienced such a rushed and discouraging interview, it was clear that he was doing it just because he had to and that he was not interested in anything I had to say. Since I put so much effort into this, I found it disappointing and rude. I was promised a follow up within 2 -3 business days and of course, over a week later still no response. By the time I got an email rejecting me, I've already had my mind made up about not wanting to work for Shopify.
