I was contacted via email promptly after submitting my resume. I was asked to schedule a Skype interview, which they call a Life Story interview, at a time convenient for me. The interview lasted about 25 minutes, in which I was asked what I thought made me me, what made me decide to apply to Shopify, and what in my life experience would apply to a customer support position. It was very friendly and informal -- as long as you know about yourself you should have no problems at this stage.
Shortly after they started me on the Gauntlet. It was about 45 minutes, and consisted of an online chat, a phone call, and an email, each with an employee pretending to be a customer. It is a bit nerve wracking, but if you research a little bit ahead of time and know how to search Google, it should be alright. Keep talking, asking questions, etc. I was given valuable feedback each time, which I was able to apply to each activity.
The initial correspondent, the life story interviewer, and the Gauntlet representative were all different people, allowing them to be unbiased and see me in different lights.
Since I had scheduling conflicts they told me that they would get back to me when new start dates were available, and sure enough they did!
