I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Aug 2022
Interview
First step was the recruiter interview with generalities about my experience and current role to see the fit.
Second step was a pair code interview with a native Python problem.
About the code interview, I didn't have a good experience mainly due to the initial solution presented wasn't in a production standard pattern and difficult to read.
I was expecting a more applied solution and interesting problem.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Q: build unit tests for the class presented
Q: fix de code to pass the test
Q: change the code to increase generalization
First round: Case study style SQL questions with python coding and short assessment like an IQ test
Final round: marketplace case study, coding based analysis, life story, and in depth project
Scheduling was very difficult and I had to spend a lot of time following up with the recruiter to move things along. They weren't able to tell me who my manager would be or provide any input on that person. In the end they simply never contacted me back after a final technical round. My impression is they didn't want to offer me a job but were unable to be direct about that-- it was such a bizarre process especially with an established organization.
