I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify
Interview
The interview process is quite similar to other recruitment processes in big tech companies. There are three rounds (excluded the first introduction call)
- 1st round : classic HR interview
- 2nd round : Meeting the manager
If you pass the second round, you will receive a cas study to prepare and to present during one of the last three interviews
- 3rd round : Meeting with three different persons from the same team you are applying for but from a different local (during one of the interview, you will present and discuss the case study)
What is really disappointing was the absence of feedbacks and the ghosting from the recruiter once I didn't get an offer, even though I reached the last round (shortlist of 3 people) . Disclosable feedbacks are really important for candidates to improve in the next process and understand what went wrong if it was the case.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- HR round : Why do you want to work for Shopify ? Why this job ? Tell me about yourself ?
- 2nd and 3rd round : a very common ensemble of behavioral and hypothetical question based on the role you are applying for, about leadership, failure, target meeting, team work, etc
- a case study with a problem very close to the type you will face.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Shopify
Interview
I was referred by an employee of Shopify so I did not apply online. However I do not have positive impression about the process. Because I have relevant experience in this position for over 5 years, I mean I was basically doing the same job in a smaller organization. Besides I've been using Shopify's product for more than 3 years which I've done everything all by myself. That means I know about the product in a pretty good level. I've been following the company for a while now and I was really interested in this job.
One might think that the formula of "relevant experience+fine knowlege of product+interest in company" could get you at least an interview.
Nope. No interview, no emails. Nothing.
I just received an automatic rejection email. And I received that only AFTER I sent an email to the related HR person 10 days after my application.
I know this company is very popular and too many people are applying them for a job but this incident made me feel that the company is having struggles with in-company processes, which is understandable when their growth ratio is considered.
I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Feb 2016
Interview
Was sent an email request for interview and asked to choose an interview time from an online calendar. Met one of their recruitment team who showed me around the 8th floor and then settled into a boardroom to discuss the role and my potential fit.
