I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Toronto, ON) in Dec 2020
Interview
I like the level of attention and care that's put into evaluating candidates not only at a technical level, but also from a professional and values perspective. It kind of helps minimize wrong hires -not that there aren't, but so far they seem very exceptional cases
Technical problems are targeted towards getting things done instead of algorithm or data structures or whatever -not that they don't matter, but interviewers put emphasis in that it's not the main area they're looking at

Question 1
Their life story is unique in the sense that the interviewer really tries to drill into how you demonstrated company values or alignment in the past
I applied online. I interviewed at Shopify (Waterloo, ON) in Apr 2021
Interview
1. 1hr coding question. Fairly easy, could be done in 10 minutes
2. Life Story Interview
The recruiter that conducted my life story interview was very new to the company, and seemed to be struggling to be on top of the interview. Her questions weren't sharp and her follow-ups to my answers didn't flow well with the conversation. After the interview, I knew I did the best I could but if she is going to share notes to make a decision I will probably get rejected which I did. Interview feels like it was a waste of time, and don't feel like a got a fair chance.

Question 1
Coding: practical, easy question if you have done significant coding at work (LeetCode not required). They also let you use external resources.
Life Story: more about your background and history of how you got to where you are

Interview
Frustrating and unfair process.
Got rejected, hence the salty words.
Was first reached by a Shopify recruiter on LinkedIn saying they are growing and want to hire 2021 developers.
The process started with a fairly easy one hour coding exercise interview. I was able to solve the problem in around 20 minutes and spent another 20 just talking with the interviewer about the life at Shopify.
After the coding exercise interview I was invited to an hour long Life Story interview. This is supposed to give you space to say what makes you, you. You are free to guide the conversation, so I focused on my IT related achievements through life that took me here.
A few days later I got an automated message stating that they had many candidates and decided to not move forward as my experience was not what they were looking at the moment. This is quite frustrating as at no moment was discussed anything related to what they are looking for. No open positions, no expected experience, nothing. I guess I should have parachute jumped, or learned portrait painting when I had the chance. What kind of life experience Shopify is looking for? As it seems knowing the actual soft & hard skills that will help the company grow is not relevant.
Update: After inquiring the Life Story interview result, I was told that they mostly take into consideration the professional experience paired with the other (zero) interviews with the team. It still fells like flipping a coin though.
Good luck! =)
