Interview
Very very very very very subjective interview process. I don't think your technical background/experience matters. For a tech company, trusting HR to filter out good candidates based on a "life story" or a "talk" about your previous experiences is not smart. I have interviewed multiple times with them, once it was a 5 minute talk about your life and that's that, the second time it was about 45 minutes. Never had any technical questions, or any discussion related to the job at hand. They won't have a clue about your resume when they talk to you. Why? "To make it more organic." Give me a break.

Interview
Did life story interview where I talked about my childhood and interests. Talked about recent tech and what, if any, side projects I'm working on. The interview was nice and easy to talk to. Then asked what interests me about Shopify, which for me was the atmosphere and technology.

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Feb 2017
Interview
The interview was a very invasive "Life Story" style interview, which asked about my childhood, current status, opinions of people I have met, and so on. Then a technical life story interview was an informal chat about what I was doing currently. There was no structure to it, other than what could be inferred out of these informal life story chats. I didn't make it to the subsequent steps, without any explanation, but likely due to the fact that the interviewer didn't like my Life Story.
The technical interviewer was more concerned about the battery life in his laptop than actually learning about me. With 15 minutes remaining, he said to me "I have 3% battery life left, do you want to ask anything in the remaining 3%?" Completely unprofessional.
