I applied online. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Sep 2016
Interview
First interview with HR person who asks very general questions about your life. They act like it's just a "talk" and not an interview, but don't let your guard down.
If you get past this, you get a second interview with developers, which is again atypical - they just ask you to show them a project you've done. Can't say what happens after that, as that's as far as I got. I didn't feel like I actually got a chance to demonstrate my abilities or aptitude for solving coding problems.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Dec 2017
Interview
The people I talked with were awesome and really made you feel comfortable. Its true that you can pretty much be yourself there. First did a basic life story interview with a recruiter, then did a technical talk with a team lead.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Sep 2017
Interview
I have spoken to 3 different recruiters on 3 occasions in last one year. They never get back with a response after the "Life Story" call. I understand if they don't want proceed with the interview for some reason, but they should learn to say no. It is never a good idea to leave a candidate high and dry. When you put in so much time and effort to apply, the least you expect is pro active communication leading to full closure of the process.
I hope they improve the process.
