Interview
I had an skype call with a recruiter, it was nice, casual talk, my history. work experience, college etc..
after that I had an interview with a lead developer, it was a little tough as I didn't expect that I would asked about scalability or how to handle millions of rows..
got asked abut APIs, rails and ruby. all was simple except the scaling questions.

Interview
I got contacted by HR for an on site chat, which they call "life story" You go there (or on Skype), you will be asked to give the whole story of your life. At this stage, there is nothing fear but for some reason, some people don't get a call afterwards. Which makes you start questioning their process. After this step, I got a call for an onsite interview which is pair-programming. They told me that they will contact me in a week ,no matter the answer is. After a week, I haven't received an email so I sent one asking to give me an update. The super busy recruiter took two days to digest the email and responded me that I will get a call from them on the same day. They didn't call so I followed up with another email. They responded that they will call me this time, "certainly". They didn't call so I followed up an email stating that I understand what's happening and thanked for their time THEN they called to tell me that they moved on with other candidates.
It is not about having a cheesy draw the .. owl motto, or shooting videos to show how nice the hiring process is. Instead, respect your candidates' time and give them a response regardless of the decision. We get it, sometimes people don't fit and don't get the job. It is part of the game but not respecting their time, it just describes the inner mechanisms of the company so I guess I dodged a bullet.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 7 months. I interviewed at Shopify (Toronto, ON) in Nov 2015
Interview
They found me at Github/Linkedin, called me to start the process.
First there was a very nice Skype call, they told me there was few steps, a Technical call with some developer and then I would have to go to Toronto to interview face to face, meet the team.
Few MONTHS later they emailed me again to arrange the technical call, the interviewer looked very very tired, but it went well, even that he didn't asked me anything relevant, it seems he was trying to show off he's skills instead of asking me stuff.
Again several week without any contact, then they've sent me a code challenge, that was not in the original interviewing process, yet I was ok because it was very very easy, an URL Shortener.
I've finished the code in less than a week, sent it and then got 1 month without answer. After 1 month I've emailed the recruiter, he told me that they had hired other developer.
So basically they look like a very nice company, like a huge startup, with hackdays, nice videos at their youtube channel, cool stuff everyday, but in reality they're even worst then other companies, because they promise something they're not.
Anyway, it was one of the worst interviewing processes I've ever joined.
