The interview process at Shopify is intense, but rewarding if you get an offer. When you have to go through so many different interviews with them, an offer feels more valuable & deserved. I happily accepted it.
I applied online with no connections in Shopify and no one to refer me. I found the job on SEEK and applied immediately. I had a very basic experience in e-commerce, so felt like I was applying underqualified.
Initially, you just need to complete an application form. If Shopify is interested in you & your CV, they invite you to complete another form, where you have to submit a typing test result, answer some basic questions regarding your visa/citizenship status, your previous experience, etc. Those steps felt like (and probably were) just initial screening, seeing if you would be able to join the company.
Then, if you are successful, Shopify invites you to the "Life Story" interview. It did not feel official at all, it's laid back and basically asks you about your interests outside work, why are you looking for a new position, how you deal with difficulties, etc. The key here is to stay yourself, there was honestly nothing to worry about, the lady who interviewed me was very nice and smiled a lot :)
The next step was a technical interview, and it was very challenging. You have a sort of simulation going on, where you have to answer 2 simultaneous support chats at the same time. On the other end, it's just a recruiter asking questions, so it won't be a real chat with real merchants, but you are required to act professionally and as if you already have a role and are a Support Advisor. You get a time limit of 15 minutes, and then the recruiter asks for your feedback. What do you think you've done wrong? What do you think you've done well? How can you improve in the future? Be self-aware!
After the chats, you receive one phone call with the same recruiter and are required to answer & handle queries while being on a phone. For me personally, the phone call went much easier & better than 2 chats. With chats, I ran out of time and almost failed the second chat. With the phone call, I solved the problems in just about 6 minutes. Overall, the experience was a bit stressful, but I think you get used to it in time.
After the technical interview, Shopify invites you to send through your references. It is all done online, through a third-party service, so be ready with your references' e-mails. You need 3 of them.
Once all of that is done, sit back and hopefully wait for a call! I received mine within a week, offering the position!
