I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Springer Nature (New York, NY) in Nov 2019
Interview
I was never told I would have to do a written test so that caught me off guard. I had to match abstract blurbs to BMC publications and give my justification for assigning it to a particular journal. Then I had to write up an email draft responding to an author who was annoyed that the review process was taking so long. Afterwards, a bunch of Q&A's on job history, goals, how I work with a team, etc.

Question 1
Routine interview questions: my academic history, job history, what was my greatest accomplishment, talk about a time you dealt with a difficult situation with a coworker, when can you start, etc

Interview
A telephone interview that lasted 20 to 30 minutes. Quite generic and standard interview type questions. Precursor stage to a face to face interview which has been offered very soon.

Name a time when you had to deal with someone difficult.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Springer Nature
Interview
The entire process, from application to in-person interview, was around a month. There was first a short phone interview with HR, followed by a phone interview with two people leading the editorial team a week later -- both calls involved questions about what you know about BMC/Springer Nature, your work background, and why you're interested in the position. Both calls were about 15 minutes.
The in-person interview was scheduled for the week after, and lasted around two hours. The first hour was essentially an administrative test in three parts: selecting which journals are the best fit for a selection of articles, task prioritization, and creating a mock email to respond to a client. The second hour was a discussion with the editorial team heads about previous job experience, and involved fairly standard interview questions.
