I've got an invitation for a 30-min interview with HR, which was quite light and simple questions related to my background and why I applied for the job. Salary for Associate Editor (with PhD) is 55K and there's no negotiation. For a company that has the 2nd biggest revenues among scientific journals, that's not the best well paid job. Also you have to go to the office twice a week and there's no negotiation about that either. As I was told by the recruiter, although most of the team live/work in different cities and meetings are online, you have no flexibility of choosing your own home office days. A week later I was asked to choose a paper in the area and write a "research highlight" no more than 500 words. I've worked on it and sent it. I was ghosted for a month until I received the same invitation for a 30-min job interview. The recruiter was about to ask me the same questions from the first time, when I reminded him we had this interview before. He sounded unprepared and disorganized. Very disappointing.
