I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Target in May 2008
Interview
Applied in the store. It took a while for management to contact me. Had an interview asking about cash handling experience and why I wanted to work at Target. The process was fairly abbreviated (15 minutes). Was hired for training to start the next week. Fairly painless process.
The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Target (San Antonio, TX) in Jan 2008
Interview
You can apply online or at an in-store kiosk (I recommend the kiosk). If applying at the kiosk they usually have a red phone next to it, a screen might be displayed to pick up the phone and talk to an HR executive. At that point they will come out and set up an interview time. There is only one interview and it is mainly situational. They will ask questions such as "Tell me about a time when..." it's not difficult it just takes about an hour.

Question 1
Tell me about a time when you had a problem, how you resolved it and what was the outcome.
The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Target in Sep 2008
Interview
For starters, you have to fill out an incredibly long computer survey/questionnaire on a slow computer. This took at least an hour which is kind of shocking considering this is for a simple cashier position. After that, you get two 1:1 interviews. Then you're sent on your way and about a week later, you get the call for a position, which may or may not be specifically what you applied for.
