This was a first-stage screening interview (voice call via Skype) for an internal role at Toptal, not one of their freelance positions — typical introductory questions about your professional background and why you’re interested in the role. However, the overall experience was pretty disorganized. When arranging the interview, I had to say which position I had applied for because the recruiter didn’t know. The interviewer was a no-show the first time around, and when we finally did connect, it seemed like they hadn’t reviewed my resume beforehand... and this person was a senior recruiter.
One other thing to note: I'm not sure if this is the case for all Toptal positions, but a fixed number for the salary was offered at the beginning of the conversation to see if I was still interested in moving forward. While negotiation wasn't an option, I appreciated the transparency.
