Interview included basic medium-level LeetCode problems, a straightforward system design and distributed systems discussion, generally positive feedback, but I was ghosted afterward with no follow-ups despite multiple polite outreach attempts.
I applied online. I interviewed at Visa Inc. (Austin, TX) in Apr 2023
Interview
Major misalignment between HR and Hiring Manager
Pros: Brand name and potential for interesting scale. Cons: This was my fourth poor experience with Visa recruitment in 7 years. Despite asking the recruiter multiple times to confirm the format of the second round, I was explicitly told it would be non-technical. However, the hiring manager arrived 20 minutes late and immediately began a technical assessment. I declined to participate because the process did not align with what was promised. Advice to Management: Ensure recruiters and hiring managers are on the same page regarding interview formats. Ghosting candidates after multiple rounds (which has happened to me twice here) and showing up late to interviews creates a very poor candidate experience.

I applied for a Senior Software Engineer role at Visa. I completed the technical assessment and scored 4/4, demonstrating full proficiency. Despite this, I was asked to retake the assessment, and my score dropped to 3/4.
I was then sent a rejection email.
This retake request felt like a complete waste of time and showed a lack of respect for the effort candidates invest. If Visa expects candidates to go through assessments multiple times after proving their abilities, they should at least acknowledge the hours lost and reconsider this inefficient process.
I hope Visa improves this process so future candidates do not experience the same frustration.
