Qatargas Snapshot
The Middle East nation of Qatar is the world's #1 producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and Qatargas, a subsidiary of Qatar Petroleum, owns a share of that rating. The company operates offshore in the North Field and onshore at Ras Laffan, a vast petroleum complex, where natural gas is cooled to a liquid form for easier transport by ship. It produces more than 31 million tons per year of LNG along with by-products condensate, sulfur compounds, and helium. Qatargas' four trains, or plants, supply utility customers in Europe, Asia, and North America, with Japan and Spain leading and China coming on fast. Major customers include CNOOC, Chubu Electric, and Gas Natural.
