Airbnb China is a disaster

Pros

Engineer team is awesome. There're a lot of fun people in other Airbnb offices. Lots of travel if you like.

Cons

Be ready to be bullied if you're not personally liked by any leader. You can belong anywhere except here. Hierarchy controls how people treat you. Working hard and making success doesn't mean anything here, but making the high leader like you is the only way to survive. People don't dare to take risks and innovate. Everyone knows how to be successful in China, but no one makes the decision and takes the responsibilities. Safety staying in the company , taking advantages of the perks and Airbnb brand, then leaving for a better local chance seems to be the eternal aim of everyone. This team will pour money on some mysterious projects, although they know it'll be a failure before they do. Complaining about how headquarter doesn't understand China, but never proactively step forward. Airbnb used to be my favorite company, and I sincerely wished it to be stronger. All I can say right now is farewell.

Pros

Great benefits and perks. You can't beat 100% paid health, dental, vision insurance plus gourmet meals, kombucha/tea/wine/beer on tap, company retreats, happy hours and parties.

Cons

Don't have any of their policies put together. Nothing is cohesive. Terrible communication up and down. In five years they will probably have their act together but right now, everyone is just on a wild ride.

Pros

Great perks, travel credits, attractive culture, comfortable working environment

Cons

Culture is at most to attract new hires to join Airbnb when in fact lack of application of culture to work is so glaringly disgusting, especially the human resource team. HR made poor hiring decisions, who have no idea of what work CX does. Mid management are nothing but eloquent and incompetent at their core work, cannot do the most basic work their teams do, no work ethics nor moral values. same for HR who continue to protect their managers and do nothing despite employees reported on their manager's lack of integrity and work ethics. Managers promote people they favour over despite guidelines for promotion. Communication from management is terrible, with no thought of how their employees feel when executive management is still discussing on how to communicate. They need a proper internal comm team, honestly. Operation managers are at best, carried titles from previous job with no understanding of airbnb cultures. HR needs to remember experiences do not always equate to good managers.
