Pros

Amazon holds a high bar for employees -- which is nice to keep "career coasters" from dragging teams down.

Cons

Expectations are that employees know their metrics and memorize details of their services and systems can speak to them ad-hoc, including in large meetings exposed to several layers of management above them. Not always great for people who get flustered getting put on the spot on a regular basis.
