Pros

- Strong revenue growth and also profitable - not many startups at this stage are profitable - Solid execution - Marc Andreessen gave a talk at the company All Hands and called Applied the best run startup in a16z portfolio - Professional growth opportunities - company believes in giving opportunities to people internally instead of just hiring externally - Interesting products and technical problems - High transparency internally about the business, customers, challenges, etc. - Culture of feedback and continuous improvement - Cooperative on all my work visa applications (I had to do multiple)

Cons

- Rapid growth means teams are lean in some areas - Fast pace of a hyper growth startup is not what everyone is looking for (and that’s understandable) - If you live in San Francisco, commute is a consideration. Several people at the company live in SF now though and have figured out a setup that works for them

Pros

The problems we tackle are both highly technical, world influencing and challenging. The Ann Arbor team stands out with its unique Midwestern approach within our Silicon Valley-headquartered company. This team not only thrives on the aggressiveness and growth opportunities but also values a gritty, straightforward 'work hard, play hard' midwest style. This mindset is a reflection of our company's culture, embodied by our CEO and CTO, who are Michigan natives.

Cons

Inter-office communication, particularly with non-headquarter offices like Ann Arbor, can be challenging at times. To help overcome this, staff in these offices are encouraged to travel and engage directly with team members. Additionally, while the Ann Arbor team's Midwestern distinction, as noted in the 'Pros,' is valuable, it's a bit of extra work to ensure that this uniqueness doesn't lead to a significant shift away from company values and objectives.
