Pros

Not your typical desk job. 50/50 mix for most starting engineers between desk work and field work. You don't have to dress to impress every day, for safety reasons everyone wears the same thing. . . less laundry for you! If you aren't busy you're doing something wrong or not putting forth the effort. Good salary, amazing benefits and quarterly bonuses (you can't always expect them to be big though)

Cons

Being in a union environment means you can't always do as much of the hands on field work as you may like, you're more of a manager overseeing work. Sometimes there is a lot of moving around of people laterally and vertically based on attrition or need (which can be good and bad).

Pros

Working at ArcelorMittal has provided a number of developmental opportunities through lateral moves, project assignments, and the Company's formal tuition reimbursement program. It is a dynamic industry with various opportunities for those who are motivated to work to attain them! The Company values their employees and have some of the greatest people working here. Additionally, the compensation and benefits package is unbeatable!

Cons

Being a global company certainly presents challenges that do not necessarily exist among small organizations. The typical challenges one would expect would be the delay in decision making and execution for certain projects.

Pros

As an engineer there are always problems to solve and things to improve. The people I work with are very good and I enjoy working in a team environment. The company truly seems to be trying to continously improve.

Cons

Soometimes the corporate one size fits all mentality can be frustrating and it is easy to get overloaded with projects and sometimes difficult to finish them as new issues arise. The plants run 24/7 so when things break down there can be a lot of pressure.
