Pros

Decent pay and profit sharing Many game teams are unionizing Great work/life balance Stock grants Above average benefits A great legacy of IPs and game worlds

Cons

Terrible reputation with gamers Second class Microsoft employees A small cog in the Microsoft machine No longer a space to be creative Regular layoffs Very hierarchical - if you are not a stake holder your voice doesn't matter Regularly cancelled projects

Improving, but future still a question

Pros

Still great compensation. Still a lot of emphasis on art and design, still plenty of perks, still great coworkers. Merger with MSFT not quite felt entirely on day to day basis (except for layoffs) and future of what that brings is still uncertain.

Cons

company culture has gone from passionate employees and game-first mentatily to a more sterile, corporate, transactional one. Used to have to love our games to work there in a support role. Less so now. Increased emphasis on budget and savings.
