Pros
I've been with the firm for two years and have been VERY happy with the work. While it definitely matters what team you are on, there are some excellent opportunities for younger people here who are willing to work hard and learn. My commentary is directed specifically at my team: Pay is slightly lower than competitors but work/life balance is much better, and the office environment is more collegial than at my previous employer (Big 4, consulting side). My colleagues are well-educated, and the work is intellectually rigorous (it IS tough to get on a pure strategy project, but they do exist. You just have to do really good work over a decent period of time to get your foot in that door). I have never had to be on an IT implementation or staff augmentation project, but I know they do exist.
Cons
There are internal and external perception issues with our current business model, mostly from people who are frustrated that there isn't much non-US Gov't work. While that is true (for the next year or so), commercial and government sector consulting is basically the same in terms of work product. There is a huge "grass is greener on the other side" line of thinking on the part of many junior employees who lack the sense of perspective about the larger consulting marketplace. Finally, there are significant quality variations across the teams. While every team has their shining stars (and I have worked with some absolutely brilliant people from each team), there are unspoken perceptions about the lowest common denominator on each team. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.
