Pros

I believe that the best reason to work at Booz Allen was the number of interesting speakers and brown bag lunches that were open to anyone. I learned a great deal by attending random information sessions. While this didn't make up for otherwise wasting my time, I did feel like this training was very valuable and gave me a lot of knowledge to follow up on in the future.

Cons

Job hunters, beware! Booz Allen has been growing at an unsustainable rate. Managers hire excess workers, then let them sit in offices with nothing to do, sometimes for months. Advancement, security clearances, training - if you want it, you'd better be ready to fight for it, as managers will leave you to fend for yourself. "Networking" within the company consisted of my manager handing me a list of people who didn't know either of us and requesting that I call them and ask to be put on their projects. All in all, I had a very bad experience. I was told that this is mostly because I didn't have any family or friends in Booz Allen prior to going there, as this is how the typical person enters the company. After all of this mistreatment, I had to repay Booz Allen for the tuition that they had paid for and the moving expenses that they had covered.

Pros

I worked with some phenomenal people at Booz and I made some lasting friendships. I'm appreciative of the opportunity to try out different projects and clients. I learned useful skills in Agile project management and strategy consulting.

Cons

I also worked with some incredibly toxic senior managers, who I reported to HR. I had one conversation with HR where they asked me to send names of anyone else who wanted to speak with them about these senior managers. I ended up compiling a list of 12 names, none of whom were contacted by HR. HR did nothing to address my and my colleagues concerns. The company showed a pattern of moving toxic or unproductive people from team to team but never actually addressing the performance or potential harassment issues. I also had terrible experiences with clients and nothing was done by Booz. The work on most projects is slow and inefficient. The weight of finding projects is entirely on the individual employee and there are few formal processes in place to help with the project search.

Pros

First job out of college.

Cons

I worked there for two years. This was my first job out of college, where they hired me from an internship. The internship itself was meaningless, and I feel like me and my fellow interns had to figure allot out on our own. During my time as a full timer, I was delegated to a single contract for the majority of my time. In this contract, I was disrespected, and overworked. The contract client had me teaching his son to code, and my manager said nothing against that. I was isolated from my coworkers, and only received a meaningful salary when a coworker of mine came back from a much higher paying job. The work environment is cut throat, and values sucking up to management more than integrity and quality.
