Pros

The electronic design automation domain is complex, hence there are deep algorithmic challenges in most tasks.

Cons

High-level management does not seem to be clueful, engineers not given enough respect, lower pay than competitors, unfairness in promotions, company seems to be doing worse than competitors, excessive politics, mid-level management discourages most things except maintenance-mode bug-fixing stuff, poor parity between different products in promotions and pay. All imho.

Pros

There were some good people at the company and they were fairly open in sharing their knowledge and expertise. The company was still #1 in the market, which was something we could be proud of, but it was also something we knew the company couldn't maintain, so it was tough watching it slip away.

Cons

Terrible management, which causes problems in all aspects of the company. Morale was so low that it was depressing to even think about going to the office each day. The culture, i.e., they environment created by top management, was one of paranoia and constant change, so no matter how good one was at a job, there was no feeling of security.

Pros

The work is challenging, good opportunities for mix of customer-facing and technical jobs. The industry is very high-paced and interesting. This is a fast-paced work environment where you get good experience, and you either learn to either sink or swim. From a technical standpoint the code is a complex product to develop, manage, and deploy for customers. In terms of working with customers, these are all business customers, and they are smart and will keep you on your toes. The sales process is very interesting, and you can engage with a wide variety of customer types that all have different styles. So, basically, there is a lot to learn from working here.

Cons

Limited career advancement opportunities, little interest in developing employees. This is a "revolving door" company. Very little respect for work-life balance. No job security. Bloated layer of middle-management is wasteful. The morale is not very good. Of course, at the moment the stock price has declined 80 percent or so in the last year, so of course that hurts morale. The main issue is that their is no strategic career path here. Each business operates quite independently (caused by the growth-by-acquisition-strategy. The company is a patch-work of purchases which have their own backgrounds.) There is limited technical innovation within the company...it is all obtained through acquisition.
