Pros

Immigration,Benefits and work from home options.

Cons

Very bad performance management process which will not give you good bonus at the end of year and slim chances of getting promotion if you are principal associate based on your organization. More talk and less do culture so as long as you are good at talking you will be promoted fast but doesn't matter how much hard work have you done in your projects. also favoritism is all around the company so beware of those managers. Company is always downsizing so no job guarantee at all.

Pros

A few great Co-Workers (others just stab you in the back) Some great technologies you can learn for a short-term

Cons

1. Lots of Stress 2. No work/life balance 3. You should be your manager's pet!!! 4. Lots of talk about company's culture but nothing in fact, what you hear is not true and what management ask you to do you should NOT do (such as be vocal, do the right thing, speak up and etc...) 5. Lots of betrayals, in fact, Capital One encourages this kind of behavior 6. Performance reviews are done based on your commit's amount! (lots of experienced people, are overusing this by creating a huge amount of fake commits and contributions) 7. Support for other OS's such as Linux or windows is a lie, only OSX is supported for development 8. Huge dependency on US team, most of the time you can't even contribute, change or deploy codes without US's approvals 9. Lots of delays in review processes from the US side 10. Management has their own favorite people in teams and they lesson only to them while they are talking about the flat team structure 11. There is a huge difference between Senior and Principal Rule and Capital One’s HR team can trick you with it - don't fall into this, renegotiate your salary if they change your title just before your start date, and expect that leads will expect a lot more from you when you are a "Principal" (And don’t expect that someone will explain this to you on the first day) 12. Lots of micromanagement - they count your breaks and they ask you to take fewer breaks - but at the same time, they expect you to be on call 24/7! 13. Canada's Software studio tend to follow the US almost everywhere, lots of in-house frameworks(built in the US) on top of famous frameworks which prevent you from gaining some fundamental knowledge

Pros

Capital One is a huge company so I'm really only reviewing the Global Finance organization, where I had the misfortune of working for four years. For the right person, it can be a great opportunity. It's a big, well-run company and it doesn't expect you to work more than 40-50 hours per week (granted, strenuous hours in a Finance role). If you work in Richmond, the West Creek facilities are fantastic. I saw plenty of not terribly talented people in the their late 20's making (low) six figures without really knowing all that much or working that hard. Especially in the undergrad program (FRP) the kids are treated really well with tons of training and networking opportunities.

Cons

Capital One has a brutal performance management system and they really do fire people, even good people, and lots of them. In the area I worked, pretty much anyone over the age of 40 was toast if they weren't a Senior Director or above. The Senior Manager and Director levels ( for those age 40+) were constantly targeted in re-orgs and downsizings. And it's not like you get great experience in Capital One Finance. What you learn there is very internally focused and not valued outside of the company. The people I saw getting caught up in re-orgs were not finding comparable jobs in other organizations. For anyone over the age of 30, joining Capital One Global Finance is a horrible career move.
