Pros

Very employee safety oriented. Very high integrity on the product produced. Overall good working environment. Decent "open door" policy with supervisors/management at my site. Good benefits.

Cons

The site I worked at produced hard cooked eggs. When business demands were slow, the number of hours worked dropped, so this was frustrating. Some policies were difficult to understand. Hard to break into any promotions within the company.

Good company. Business units in silo's.

Pros

Great teamwork and some very good direct supervisors. Advance opportunities are there if you're in with the right people or business unit. You'll work with some very educated and market knowledgable people whom most are very willing to share their expertise with you and your customers. Micro management is low but expecations are high and there are rewards for hard work and collaboration.

Cons

Salary is low compared to the industry. You'll be low man with little advancement unless you get "in" with the right people. Manager turn over is high, so expect a new manager every year. Senior managers are not as open and transparent as they profess to be amd will withhold information to suit their needs. Doing the "right" thing will only be done if it benefits the business unit or a particular manager.

Pros

exposure to large scale manufacturing, food safety, and quality control work in labs. Easy to get along with technicians that run the plant, the engineers aren't as sociable though. Solid experience in chemistry and food and beverage industry. Many jobs available in many business units. Resources to learn about other manufacturing plants in the facility.

Cons

Eddyville, IA is in out in the country. Des Moines is the closest city (1 hour away). Not easy to get promoted unless you plan to live your life at work and stay here in the area. Job can get repetative. Pay raises do not really happen. No paid overtime. Shift schedule including nights.
