Pros

Large organization; very longstanding presence. Global operations - so potential opportunity to experience work in various portions of the globe.

Cons

Tenure is valued FAR more than anything else. Many senior leaders have been in their roles for many, many years - a result of their having been promoted well beyond their capabilities. However, the Cargill culture is that "If you've been with the company 20+ years, you MUST be a good guy..." Conversely, if you've come from outside the company, your talents, efforts, actual results (should anyone bother to notice those) are discounted. After all, if you've not been there a couple of decades, you're simply assumed to be clueless. I've worked for a number of multi-billion-dollar public companies - and Cargill, or at least the portion of it that I experienced, has by far the weakest, most insecure, least professional, and most inbred management team of all. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Cargill as an employer. Join at your own risk!

Pros

nice people, easy place to work, easy to collect a pay check, no sense of urgency.....always "it can get done tomorrow" culture so limited stress....

Cons

Too many to list...If you want to step back in time then Cargill is the place to work. Show-up, Shut-up and leave culture. Easy place to collect a pay check and not push yourself. Actually don't push at Cargill because the culture does not reward different thought process. No professional or intellectual diversity.....almost comical how arrogant and out of touch the people company is with modern business. New ideas are challenged and generally not accepted as Cargill's approach to business very "top down" and becomes obvious that new, outside ideas are politely pushed aside.... Traders and most of the employees at Cargill have limited math, and no technical capabilities. If you know math and have programming skills one can get away with murder at Cargill because no one will understand what your doing. Lots of people doing the same same way because lack of intellectual diversity forces mediocrity. A few bright spots but overall Cargill is what one expects. An old firm where the culture supports mediocrity and the status quo.

Pros

Great benefits, flexible work arrangements dependent on manager, great potential for career growth within company

Cons

Culture. Multiple corporate functions have gone through/ are going through restructuring and no body is handling the change well. They are in the middle of offshoring a lot of their corporate services to regional service centers across the world and it is not a graceful or welcome transition.
