Pros

Predictable workflow and scheduling. Ability to move to new cities or states. Systems/procedures are already in place for staff to follow.

Cons

As a GM you tasked with the challenge to take a failing location and turn it into a top level "R" status location. Unfortunately the crew turnover rate is 100% or higher and the staff that has tenure is often a poison pill that is unwilling to change or improve. Additionally, my management staff moved me 3 times because one or more of these crew members complained that they were unhappy with me as a manager. This would be following an attempt to improve them or hold them accountable. So in actuality it is a losing battle that you cannot win IMO. The management team above me was unwilling to back me so that I could gain traction and respect within my location to effect change that was needed to reach the goals for that location. If you are going to be successful in this company you have to figure out a way to change bad attitudes and complacency without upsetting the crew that are used to being coddled and catered to any time they have negative feelings. On the day I was fired I was trying to coach one of the crew members and one of the 9 year crew members decided to chime in and verbally disregard my instructions in front of the crew member I was attempting to teach about why they need to follow the linebacker's assessments instead of ignore them. I asked the offending employee to stop and indicated that I would talk to them later about the incident. After rush hour I asked the offending crew member to come chat with me in the office and was told "No. I don't need to talk to you". I asked them to clock out in that case. Hours later my manager called me and fired me with no explanation other than an employee felt that I wasn't melding with the crew. Hard to meld when you have to get rid of horrifically behaved coddled individuals. When I attempted to bring my concerns to higher management I didn't get a response at all. I'm deeply disappointed in the way I was treated given the fact that I was doing exactly what I was hired to do. I would not have changed anything about the way I managed my facility. The facility was showing marked improvements across the board after I took over. I was treated extremely unfairly.

Pros

- Better than minimum wage - Minimal experience needed! Much is taught on the job - Develop some serious kitchen skills between knife handling and food prep - Opportunities for growth within company - Make lasting friendships with fellow crew members - FREE CHIPOTLE MEAL everyday and often get to spend it with coworkers - Potential for tuition reimbursement IF you work there for 1+ years part time or full time - Management does their best to work around your schedule, and makes the effort to meet one-on-one often just to talk and check in - EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE - Always opportunities for more/less hours, based on how much you want to work - Management is good about making sure you do not work late one night and then early the next morning - Very strong and passionate culture, which they will have ingrained in you by the time you are done working with them

Cons

- VERY fast paced during peak times, whenever understaffed, or when trying to finish food prep in the mornings - Can become so stressful between negative customer interactions and rushing to keep up with the sales goal set by management to the point where you feel like walking out of the restaurant - Physically demanding and constantly on feet, often bending and twisting during chores such as food prep, dishwashing, and organizing inventory; I would often come home with a sore back or legs - Expect to work overtime every once in a while. You will end up staying later than your schedule says you should when the coworker replacing you for the day is late, or the team is understaffed. Heck, if you are closing the restaurant, you WILL stay as late as 2-3 AM on some nights if that's how long it ends up taking.

Pros

Great people to work with Fast-paced environment Lots of skill training Free burrito/bowl/salad per shift, paid lunch break after 5 hours

Cons

Management treats people as disposable, hires many young workers on visas who feel they have no other choice and who do not know they are being exploited Federal, provincial and local laws are not followed Work is never done fast enough, employees have to cut corners to survive and food safety suffers Constant employee turnover due to unreasonable management demands eg. employees are expected to find their own replacement if they have to miss a shift for any reason Inflexible schedules mean employees always work unless they are dead, sick employees have no incentive to stay home
