Thanks for sharing your feedback - There are some things you mentioned that are a fundamental part of the experience at DoiT. We are a remote-first company, but we try to balance that with remote and in-person opportunities to get together like virtual events or the three day in-person Company Wide Kickoff we just flew everyone out to attend in either Athens, Greece or Miami, Florida. In person activities have admittedly been tricky in light of the pandemic, but we look forward to doing more of them in the future. (And any time you want to invite fellow team members in your metro area to safely get together for a happy hour - please talk to your manager and go for it - Drinks and apps are on us!)
In a remote-first world, there is a massive amount of flexibility and autonomy to reshape your work and time management structure in a way that works best for you. If you're worried about striking the right balance, I'd recommend talking to your manager or our People Operations team to clarify targets, objectives and expectations. We have a lot to do, but don't expect everyone to tackle the work in the same way.
When it comes to professional development, you're right that we cover the costs for a wide degree of certifications and provide our team members with the space and time to prepare for them. Our Cloud Reliability Engineering team offers up to 1/3 of their time to individuals looking to invest in their own development or expertise and there is a broad scope of growth potential for those looking to develop their skills as either SMEs, strategists, or emerging leaders. We are doubling in size each year and with that comes a massive opportunity to advance your skills, abilities and experience. If you're uncertain how best to leverage this opportunity for yourself, I'd strongly recommend thinking about exactly what it is you're passionate about, defining how it will impact the success of DoiT and your own growth, and then speaking to your manager and/or People Operations Business Partner about how best to develop a roadmap to get there. We're here to help!
Our People Team does spend a significant time on Talent Acquisition, but we also invest a ton of time in developing and managing global programs, supporting onboarding and having 30 and 90 day check in's with all new team members, partnering and enabling our managers, driving organizational development and internal communications, and a whole lot more. We'll dedicate time to partnering 1:1 with any member of our global team (at any level) that reaches out to us directly for additional support. If you'd like to have a planning session, please reach out so we can talk further.
If you're open to it, I'd really love the opportunity to speak 1:1 to continue the conversation. I hope to hear from you soon!
