Pros

Great people, lots of opportunity to develop and grow. When doing well company keeps out of your way. Plenty of training available

Cons

Lower than average pay, target setting is often done by people unaware of the business cycles in which the customer operates so can be unrealistic.

Good benefits but progression is limited

Pros

Most departments offer flexible working with the option to adapt hours or work from home when needed. There are good private medical insurance, pension and share option schemes, and the option to buy up to an additional week of annual leave.

Cons

Chances to progress are limited. Nobody knows what anyone else earns, and job vacancies never have salaries attached to them so it is not easy to identify whether a position is at your grade. Senior positions are often appointed with no advertising.
