Some very competent, hard working and talented staff. If you find the right person, potential for having an amazing mentor.

Cons

Very little vacation time and work/life Distinct and hostile divide between management and staff Overly political decision-making in regards to reviews and promotions Poor pay and little to no opportunity for performance-based compensation Constant "re-orgs" make it neither impossible to get a foothold Often deal with angry and frustrated authors/reviewers due to lack of communication and delays in payment

Pros

You feel good working for a company that is providing a positive service to the world through publishing research and assisting eduction. The atmosphere and support from management is wonderful.

Cons

I can't think of any cons. I miss working there and regret leaving. Publishing as a whole doesn't pay at the higher ends of the range but noone goes into education for the money.

Great team of co-workers. Industry best publications. Great employee benefits program and overall a great place to work - just need to not let the upper level management in the dam get to you.

Cons

C level out of touch with business unit strategies and needs. Diabolical cost cutting measures with almost continuous hiring freezes or delays that affected product quality.
