Pros
ICI paints just recently was bought by Akzo Nobel. While it remains to be seen if this is going to actually benefit those that have worked for ICI, the benefits still are good. If you work for the consumer sales division, you'll probably get a gas card, company car, and health insurance. Those in the stores division receive lesser benefits, and lower pay. They also have varied working hours, as is typical retail, and are often short staffed.
Cons
There are many downsizes to working for ICI. First, skill levels at various management levels can vary wildy. In some geographical areas, management will be experienced and professional. They will do their job, and ensure that you are treated fairly. In other areas, management will screw you over faster than you can ever imagine. They will do things that skirt the law, and frankly open the company to lawsuits by the way they treat those under them. It is not really known if corporate knows about these folks, as communication is often not encouraged. Additionally, as a whole, ICI does not spend any significant effort in advertising its products. Generations past knew about Glidden and other brands because Glidden make a strong effort in advertising its products. Now, it is obvious that ICI's lack of advertising is catching up as a generation of consumers do not know or care about ICI products.
