A lot of room for growth - Data Center Operations Technician Amazon Web Services Employee Review

Pros

-There is a lot of room for growth in my position -I like the approach of being able to create and complete projects. This helps show how and what you did to take initiative and that you are committed to making the workplace better -I have 1-on-1s every month with my manager and I feel they are really invested in me growing and progressing in this role, even if that means that I move off the team in the future.

Cons

-I feel the hiring process is a little whack. I was hired as a trainee but upon starting I have found that I have more knowledge than the people training me and people that started around the same time not as a trainee. The hiring process could do better to place people in the right level based on more technical questions during the interview to gauge the interviewee's foundational understanding.

Pros

Strong engineering culture, competitive pay, great learning opportunities, and excellent internal mobility across teams.

Cons

Work-life balance can be tough, on-call rotations are demanding, and the pace is fast with high expectations.

Pros

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Cons

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
