Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn energy markets and commodities. Can be a stepping stone to trading or a career in journalism. Hard work can be handsomely rewarded with significant pay increases. The benefits are very good, health care will cost you next to nothing, 50% 401K match, 3-weeks of vacation at the start with annual increases in vacation time. No requirement to work weekends

Cons

Management could listen more to employees about how to improve reports and stories. There's a lot of turnover here because there isn't much room from advancement, only lateral moves across different energy / commodity markets. The news room seems to be perpetually understaffed and many people seem to never leave their desk. The flat structure of the organization makes it easier for co-workers and other departments to push more work on you -- be ready to set limits for yourself

Pros

Great teammates with high standards and low egos. Compensation isn’t competitive, so top performers often move on. The medical insurance, though, is excellent.

Cons

Management: Severely disconnected. A strict “3 days in office” rule is tracked via weekly attendance reports, yet the Head of North America works fully remote after moving away from Houston. Compensation: Senior-level pay is well below the Houston market. Repeated promises to make salaries competitive have been half-measures (think bottom 10% range). Hours: Expect meetings to be scheduled irrespective of your actual working hours.
