Pros

Good place to learn about the industry and build a network of outside contacts. Chances to do some creative analysis. Good health care benefits.

Cons

No bonus or incentive to do extra work. No pension plan. The work of doing a newsletter with good weekly content turned into a repetitive grind. You have to build relationships with external people that frequently do not want to talk to you. In some products, Argus network needs to be built up. The workload was high because in addition to collecting, analyzing and writing news, we were tasked with various annual analysis books and special studies. It is difficult to take real vacation because there is no backup. When people quit, it can take a long time to fill that position, so some people were doing 1.5 jobs. Lots of price reporting agency competitors and potential contacts and customers may get bombarded with other price reporting agencies calling them. So not all contacts want to talk.

Pros

Great teammates with high standards and low egos. Compensation isn’t competitive, so top performers often move on. The medical insurance, though, is excellent.

Cons

Management: Severely disconnected. A strict “3 days in office” rule is tracked via weekly attendance reports, yet the Head of North America works fully remote after moving away from Houston. Compensation: Senior-level pay is well below the Houston market. Repeated promises to make salaries competitive have been half-measures (think bottom 10% range). Hours: Expect meetings to be scheduled irrespective of your actual working hours.
