Pros

Great for learning about energy markets (coal, power, gas, oil, crude, and etc). Decent starting salary Freedom to write about a number of topics of choice Freedom to wine and dine clients Freedom to attend industry events and conferences

Cons

Few people are promoted at Argus, it happens when management are concerned with retaining staff. Some teams are very short staffed and management fails to replace employees and give no praise for doing additional work. The initial salary at Argus is good, but the large majority will get below inflation rises in the future. Some members of senior management are very politically incorrect.

Pros

Great teammates with high standards and low egos. Compensation isn’t competitive, so top performers often move on. The medical insurance, though, is excellent.

Cons

Management: Severely disconnected. A strict “3 days in office” rule is tracked via weekly attendance reports, yet the Head of North America works fully remote after moving away from Houston. Compensation: Senior-level pay is well below the Houston market. Repeated promises to make salaries competitive have been half-measures (think bottom 10% range). Hours: Expect meetings to be scheduled irrespective of your actual working hours.
