Enjoyable place to work part time, but not a career! - Seasonal Employee Bath & Body Works Employee Review

Pros

It's a very friendly upbeat and enjoyable store to work in. Unlike other stores I've worked in you really get a chance to interact with the customers and are encouraged to do so. The 30% discount is great! Totally worth working a few hours a week. It's a shame that there is no discount off of sale merchandise (this time of year there are so many great sales it's cheaper than using the discount) However 30% is VERY generous compared to other retailers. I have worked in quite a few other stores and most of them only gave 10% off...some 15%. Plus you get 20% off at Victoria's Secret, which is a pretty sweet deal. Pay is low, but that is pretty much standard among retail jobs. Why do you think they mostly employ students? Whoever mentioned that the standard is $10 per hour has their standards set pretty high. It's an easy and fun job, not a career. More pay would be great, but it's not like you're doing difficult work. This store's management and employees are all very friendly and enthusiastic about their store and knowledgeable about the products. All of the importance is placed on the customer and giving them a good experience. This helps to make a good atmosphere for employees as well.

Cons

Hours! I have never seen so few hours at a retail job before! Even part time I was thinking maybe 20 hours per week....this is generally what I worked at other stores, and even more during the holidays. I get 6, maybe 10 at BBW. Basically you're working for the discount and a little cash to spend in the store. That said, with so few hours it's a great supplimentary job. It's easy to fit a few hours into almost any schedule in order to get a discount at a couple of rather pricey stores. I would enjoy keeping this job on the side if I were not seasonal. If you NEED a job and are expecting this to be your primary source of income, look elsewhere. This is not job for people who don't enjoy customer interaction! You have to be enthusiastic and upbeat. Some of the other reviewers don't seem to have the right kind of attitude for this job. If you aren't willing to greet, suggest, demo products, and help the customer to have a great shopping experience, then this is not the job for you. As a new employee I didn't feel prepared for my first floorset. Didn't know where anything was and felt overwhelmed. I was basically handed papers and had to figure it out. They aren't hard once you know what to do, but it would be nice if there was at least a short training period before you're thrown in...and this would benefit everyone else who wouldn't have to pick up slack for the new people or stop their own work to answer 100 questions.

Pros

Good discounts on merchandise, easy work.

Cons

I would have loved to purchase some of their products conisdering the 40% off discount for employees, but they failed to pay me enough to sustain myself let alone buy from their store! I was getting paid about $150 every two weeks! They never notified me about how little I'd be working or about what my schedule would be like, my shifts were completely random. If you want a set schedule each week. this job isn't for you, you're lucky to get 1 shift a week that only lasts about 3-4 hours. Once again, my supervisors failed to mention this, thinking it was more important that I know how to sell products than whether or not I get paid enough to survive. I don't know why there was so much emphasis on selling merchandise to customers anyway, these products practically sell themselves. I had a lot of questions starting out since I was a NEW EMPLOYEE and all and had never worked a job like this in my life, but for some reason my supervisors failed to see this and instead made me feel ashamed and embarassed for asking the simplest of questions. They'd actually get mad and a little sassy at me for asking a question, like where a specific item was or how to do a return. I have to remind you, I had just started and my shifts were so sporadic it was difficult to retain all the info, so I HAD to ask questions.
