Pros

- There are many opportunities to learn new skills as an engineer at Capital One - As an engineer, you will work with other very talented engineers, which will improve your software engineering skills

Cons

- Work-life balance does not exist for Capital One software engineers - Performance management is overly competitive, stressful, and similar to how the big tech companies run performance management - The compensation offered is middle-of-the-market at best and is nowhere near the compensation offered in big tech, which does not justify the quality and amount of work demanded of Capital One engineers or the stress caused by the competitive nature of performance management - High performing engineers who lack leadership and interpersonal skills are promoted to management positions without any management training, which can result in a negative experience for the engineers who report to these new managers and would benefit from reporting to an experienced engineering manager

Pros

Note- last year there was 2018, would not allow that option. Employee engagement always high priority.

Cons

Note- last year there was 2018, would not allow that option. Highly focused on sales vs service.

Pros

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Cons

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
