Pros

- part of the bigger Google culture and brand. - generous benefits even during covid19. - Most of the Googlers are intelligent and humble people (for the exceptions of new employees who have not had the chance to embrace the Google culture).

Cons

- Being a challenger in the market, there was tremendous pressure to always and always be working and closing deals. - Lack of diversity in upper management. Most of the managers are white, male and came from traditional organisations. - Micromanagement is the norm. I may be generalising, but it's a common thing at Google Cloud. There's no flexibility, autonomy or independent. All of your move, emails and calls are being tracked and measured. - Promotion is a black box and often times bias. Even if you've been above and beyond to your customers and for your team, you'd be told by your manager that a Consistently Meet Expectations is actually good and you should be grateful for it.

Pros

Working at a generic tech company can be a strong opportunity for someone who wants to grow quickly, work with modern tools, and contribute to products that may reach a large number of users or businesses. The environment often provides exposure to talented coworkers, cross-functional collaboration, and interesting technical or product challenges. There may also be opportunities for career advancement, competitive compensation, flexible work arrangements, and equity upside if the company performs well.

Cons

At the same time, the experience can come with tradeoffs. Priorities may shift quickly, expectations can be high, and employees may need to operate with some ambiguity around ownership, timelines, or success metrics. Depending on the team, the work may also involve tight deadlines, operational responsibilities, or pressure to move quickly. Overall, working at a tech company can be rewarding for people who enjoy learning, adapting, and taking ownership, but it may be less ideal for those who prefer highly predictable work, slower-paced environments, or clearly defined responsibilities.
