Pros

- Strong tech + work environment (especially relative to AWS.... but it's becoming more AWS-like and ORCL-like by the day). - Lots of room for scope growth (the upside of being under-resourced and having high turnover). - Great comp. - Many teammates are world class.

Cons

GCP is a distant #3 in cloud platforms and not clear how / when this will change... which leads to... perennial resourcing challenges... which leads to... high turnover, pressure cooker environment vs. other parts of Google. Too many decisions are very short term revenue driven leading to a lot of tech debt and failure to invest in some key areas (for ex., AI). Some senior managers (director / VP) are surprisingly clueless about the domains they're managing. As we get deeper into the TK reign, the org as a whole is getting a lot more top-down, dictatorial, and unfortunately, political.

Pros

Working at a generic tech company can be a strong opportunity for someone who wants to grow quickly, work with modern tools, and contribute to products that may reach a large number of users or businesses. The environment often provides exposure to talented coworkers, cross-functional collaboration, and interesting technical or product challenges. There may also be opportunities for career advancement, competitive compensation, flexible work arrangements, and equity upside if the company performs well.

Cons

At the same time, the experience can come with tradeoffs. Priorities may shift quickly, expectations can be high, and employees may need to operate with some ambiguity around ownership, timelines, or success metrics. Depending on the team, the work may also involve tight deadlines, operational responsibilities, or pressure to move quickly. Overall, working at a tech company can be rewarding for people who enjoy learning, adapting, and taking ownership, but it may be less ideal for those who prefer highly predictable work, slower-paced environments, or clearly defined responsibilities.
