Good Summer Job - Guest Services Agent Marriott International Employee Review

Pros

Great perks. Discounts at any Marriott hotel in the world. Also management is flexible with your schedule and willing to make exceptions when you need time off. Able to learn a lot about the hospitality industry while learning about running a company from the inside. The company is also able to give great references in order to provide advancement within the company. Also, the a fun work environment not at all cut throat or vindictive like some other hotel industries may be. Its all about the numbers though and reaching maximum capacity is essential in having a great day in the hotel.

Cons

You're either going to be working the 7 to 3 or 3 to 11 shift. Both of these can be tiring. The pay also starts at 8.25, so unless you have another source of income, or you don't have very many bills I wouldn't recommend this job. The management also doesn't want to you to tell customers what really going on within the hotel if their room has been overbooked. So learn how to tell a white lie. 30 hours is considered full time so that also limits the amount of money that is to be made while working here.

Work didn't feel that meaningful to the company as a whole.

Pros

Great team environment with opportunities to learn hotel operations. The work is generally independent, management trusts employees to handle responsibilities, and the employee travel discounts are an excellent benefit.

Cons

Overnight shifts can be challenging, staffing can occasionally be limited, and balancing guest service with audit responsibilities during busy nights can become stressful.
