Pros

Great benefits, access to training and development, and a good chance to learn about the CPG industry. You can learn a lot if you are self-motivated in a very short time. It’s a good 2-3 years kind of environment. There are a handful of great inspirational leaders who can help mentor you.

Cons

It is really disappointing to see how the organization approaches talent and career management. Unfortunately, good talent leaves because 1) decision criteria and role requirements are not consistent, 2) your potential is determined more by who you know and not by your results or your how (no matter how much feedback or proactive development you seek out) which creates a very inauthentic environment, and 3) leadership and human resources do not practice transparency so folks are constantly left questioning their self-worth and where they stand. Mars claims to be a ‘people passionate’ and culture driven organization, yet they do not put these values into practice. What is really sad is that the human resources’ function plays a big role in what happens and as they also operate in the same way as describe above, there is no accountability. It’s the part of the culture that is not spoken about. In addition, many people experience burn out. Work-life balance is extremely hard to achieve, and you will have to put in a ton of extra hours before or after you take some time off to make up for it. Since you need to work really hard to be able to be out of the office for a few days, taking a vacation actually becomes stressful.

Must have drive, and be a self starter.

Pros

I’ve been at Mars (Yorkville site) for about three months as a Quality Systems Senior Specialist, and so far it’s been a great experience. Everyone has been genuinely friendly, welcoming, and willing to help. The culture feels very supportive—people want to see you succeed and are quick to share knowledge and offer guidance. My manager has been amazing and is truly invested in my growth. She’s helped set clear expectations, encouraged development, and provided the tools and support I need to be successful.

Cons

None so far—still new, but my experience has been very positive.
