Bussperson - Busser Outback Steakhouse Employee Review

Pros

Bussers make surprisingly more than expected in tips. I make about $5 per hour on average just in tips and minimum wage on top of that. Employees get 1/2 off on food for a party of 1 or 2, 1/3 off for a party of 3, 1/4 off for a party of 4, etc.

Cons

You have to work Friday through Sunday evenings to get the good tips ($25-36 a night), otherwise you'll make way less. Monday-Thursday I make around $12.50 in tips on a 5 hour shift. So, that's only $2.50/hr. Also, you have to take out about 8 trash cans every shift, sometimes twice, and replace the bags. It's hard labor, as expected, not to mention running around the restaurant with a 50 pound buss tray of nasty dishes and trash.

Pros

The store level can be a really rewarding experience, I come to work and genuinely enjoy my job and coworkers.

Cons

Hovering corporate can be a headache. You don't have a say on which location you are sent to after training just a consideration of your location and commute. The bonus system is lacking with metrics that are hard to obtain and only quarterly. Raises are hardly cost of living wages and seniority isnt rewarded as new managers typically come in making as much if not more than senior managers.
